FAQs.

Legal Design is a relatively new area, so it’s no surprise that you may have some questions!

Take a look at our FAQs.

  • Yes, this is a fundamental requirement for all legal documents that we work on. We make it clear in the interpretation clause of all Visual Contracts that only the legal text is legally binding. Everything else is contextual and does not have legal effect.

  • Contracts are a massively overlooked area of law. Is it sexy? No. But, conducting contract negotiations for over 10 years has opened our eyes to the critical importance of legal agreements. Not only do they set out the parties’ rights, obligations, liabilities and expectations, but they function as a tool to secure business deals. We can clearly see the potential in contracts to move away from being a ‘necessary evil’ to an instrument for building customer engagement and trust.

  • We typically provide them as pdf and build the documents in inDesign or Adobe Illustrator. This helps to retain the integrity of the structure and content.

  • We always supply a plain-text Word version with the Legally Designed documents to enable documents to be amended if needed.

  • Insights is one of the first stages of the Visual Legals project process. We take a look ‘under the bonnet’ of your contract processes and map out your contract journeys.

We don’t just analyse how effective your contracts are though; we aim to find out how your contract partners feel when they engage with you. Do they consider it to be a positive experience? Do they trust you after signing your Terms? Are they clear what obligations they have to comply with?

The reports from the Insights Service feed into the Legal and Creative Services so that we can perfectly tailor your Terms to your business and your contracting partners.

We conduct user testing and also report back to you on the success of projects against the agreed goals.

  • No – Legal Design can be applied to any form of legal documentation. We do all forms of Commercial Contracts, T&Cs and Legal Policies.

  • We will typically incorporate two rounds of changes, but we can agree more as required (for an additional fee). We try to use our initial meetings and Insights process to identify a clear direction upfront and to use the Collaborative Feedback Session to obtain your instructions on the changes.

I used to be embarrassed when sending our T&Cs to customers. The Terms had been copied from other websites and I used to withhold the T&Cs until the last stage of negotiations to avoid putting customers off. With larger customers scrutinising the Terms more and more, we ended up jeopardising deals.

I wanted our Terms to be as good as our service offering. The new T&Cs from Visual Legals show our customers that we care about the legal bit and we have put effort into creating tailored Terms. I now want to provide our Terms upfront!
